Mike Chiu’s involvement in the financing of seniors housing and health care began in 1999. Since then, Mike has led complex and challenging financing projects across Canada. These projects have ranged in form from independent living retirement residences to assisted living, extended care, and dementia projects.

In terms of financing structure, Mike has years of experience in both the conventional and CMHC-insured marketplaces. His skillset allows for potential transactions to be analyzed in a timely manner, while simultaneously optimizing the capital stack, even when multiple properties are involved. This also provides the ability to foresee and accommodate project specific requirements, as well as develop realistic client expectations.

Over the past 20 years, Mike has been involved in over 200 transactions totaling over $6.0 billion in financing, with loan amounts having ranged from $8 million to over $130 million. With this vast knowledge, Mike is consistently called upon as a speaker at industry specific conferences including BCSLA and the Goodmans Seniors’ Housing Forum.

Mike has also been recognized as the leading broker in Canada, and is seen as one of the brightest minds in the country when it comes to structuring financing for seniors housing. Additionally, Mike is a commercial member of the BC Seniors Living Association, the BC Care Providers., and the Alberta Senior Citizens’ Housing Association.
