Meet the team

The team at Capital West is committed to achieving their clients' goals, drawing on their years of experience in the real estate financing arena.

Sidney Rubin, Director

Sidney has spent more than twenty years working in the real estate financing field. A founding partner of Capital West, he specializes in investor portfolio management and first and second private mortgages. Sidney currently manages a mortgage portfolio in excess of $60 million.

In 1994 he founded Pacifica Mortgage Investment Corporation, which today has assets in excess of $45 million. Sidney has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is a member of the Mortgage Brokers Association of British Columbia.

Daymon Eng, Director

Daymon has been actively involved in the real estate financing industry since 1991. He is a founding partner of Capital West Mortgage Inc. and specializes in commercial mortgage brokerage, joint ventures, equity syndications, and origination of large private loans. His experience includes arranging in excess of $1 billon in construction financing for multi-family residential and commercial developments and term loans for all property types.

Daymon graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is currently a member of the Mortgage Brokers Association of British Columbia, the Mortgage Investment Association of B.C. and the Urban Development Institute.

Shannon Hillman, Director

Shannon has over twenty years of real estate finance experience in residential, private and commercial mortgage fields. She is a founding partner and a director of Capital West Mortgage, specializing in investor portfolio management, and private mortgages and commercial brokerage. Shannon is a managing director of Pacifica Mortgage Investment Corporation, a mortgage investment fund managed by Capital West Mortgage Inc. Shannon currently manages a mortgage portfolio in excess of $60 million.

She received her Urban Land Diploma from the University of British Columbia and is a member of the Mortgage Brokers Association of B.C., Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals, and the Mortgage Investment Association of British Columbia.

Mike Chiu, Director

Mike Chiu graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996, and went on to complete his Masters in Health Services Management from the University of Manchester School of Business in England in 1999.

His involvement in the financing of seniors housing and health care began in 1999, and has varied from independent living projects across the spectrum to extended care and mental health. Being recognized as one of the leading lenders in Western Canada for seniors housing, he has been involved in dozens of transactions totaling over $1 billion in financing. Mike is a commercial member of the BCSLA and BC Care Providers.

Adam Battistelli, Director

In the fall of 2010 Adam joined Capital West Mortgage as a Director of Capital West's newly formed Real Estate Property Group,. His role includes overseeing asset management, real estate syndications, acquisitions, and business development for Pacifica Mortgage Investment Corporation.

Prior to his move to Capital West Adam spent 13 years with one of Canada's leading Commercial Real Estate brokerage firms where he established himself in the Investment Division. During the course of his career, Adam facilitated the disposition of 160 investment properties with a combined value totalling over 200 million dollars. Adam has extensive experience in real estate acquisitions, valuation, development, construction, property management and finance.

Adam graduated from British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) with a Diploma in Marketing Management in 1998. While at BCIT Adam was actively involved in the American Marketing Association, Toastmasters and various other associations. At present he is an active member of the RVYC and the Jericho Tennis Club.

Dixon Chow, Director

Dixon joined Capital West in Fall of 2010 as a Director of Capital West's newly formed Real Estate Property Group, after spending the past 8 years with one of Canada's leading Commercial Real Estate brokerage firms. Utilizing his knowledge and expertise of the Greater Vancouver Commercial Real Estate market, Dixon's role with Capital West includes asset management, real estate syndications, real estate acquisitions, and business development for Pacifica Mortgage Investment Corporation. Dixon is a member of Canadian Real Estate Association, Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals and Urban Development Institute.

Dixon graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) with a Diploma in Marketing Management - Commercial Real Estate and Business Management. While at BCIT, Dixon was a founding member of the BCIT chapter of the association ACE, Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurs. Today, Dixon still has an active role with ACE-BCIT as a member of its Board of Directors.

Jason Phillips, Associate

Jason is commercial mortgage broker with Capital West Mortgage. He joined the firm in 2007 as an underwriter with several years experience underwriting and analyzing commercial properties all across Canada. In 2009, he became a commercial mortgage broker and since then has arranged financing for a variety of commercial properties. His current role includes underwriting and arranging financing for commercial properties. Jason is currently a licensed mortgage broker and a member of the Mortgage Investment Association of British Columbia (MIABC).

Jason earned a B.A. in Finance from Seattle University. He is proficient in Korean, Spanish, and Japanese. He is actively involved in the downtown east side community through a volunteer organization that helps feed the homeless.

Rebecca Plamondon, Office Manager

Rebecca has been employed with Capital West Mortgage as an Office Manager since September 2008. Rebecca's primary responsibilities are running of the office administration, and working with the Directors. Rebecca also oversees processing of mortgage payments and mortgage documentation for Pacifica Mortgage Investment Corporation.

Rebecca graduated from Douglas College in Fine Arts and out of office she likes to keep active by skiing, walking, hiking, baseball and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Jackie Abremski, Administrator

Jackie has been with Capital West since the summer of 2010 as an administrator for the Pacifica Mortgage Investment Corporation. Jackie's extensive legal experience in commercial lending and foreclosures gives her a unique understanding of lending practices, documentation, process and procedures. Her role with Capital West includes the administration of the mortgage accounts, management of delinquent accounts and coordination of arrears collection and foreclosure processes.

After growing up in the Prairies, Jackie completed her post-secondary education in British Columbia. She attended the University of British Columbia for 2 years majoring in Psychology and then moved onto Capilano University graduating from the Paralegal Program. Jackie has also attended Simon Fraser University on a part-time basis, majoring in Psychology and minoring in kinesiology. She has worked in the legal field for 28 years, primarily in commercial real estate and foreclosures.
